Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará

Popular Mission in Laguna, Philippines.

For the first time, our Religious Family held a popular mission from June 1-9, 2024 in Barangays Bungkol and Burlungan, Magdalena, Laguna. The center of the activities was the chapel of Bungkol, which is very close to the IVE Minor Seminary. The missionaries visited houses, inviting the people to the sacraments and children’s and youth missions. Every day the people became more and more involved in supporting the needs of the mission, seeing the work of Divine Providence firsthand.
It was beautiful to see how well-disposed the children were, as they participated in the activities and were taught to pray and sing songs. The grace of God was clearly at work especially in the young souls who eagerly came to prepare to receive the sacraments, some on their own initiative and despite the lack of support. We also held a feria for the children with many games and prizes, aided again by the Providence of God.
We had planned to have a procession with the Blessed Sacrament on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart, but when it was about to begin, there came a storm with heavy rain. The children prayed the Rosary, and after the end of the first Sorrowful Mystery, the rain stopped! The procession was very solemn and the children and youth reverently knelt in the damp alleys before Our Lord during the Benediction.
On the final day of the Mission, 2 young children were baptized, 30 children and youth received First Holy Communion, and 7 others received both Sacraments. The spirit of supernatural joy could clearly be perceived!
Surely with all these visible fruits are countless other unseen graces. After we had already finished the Mission and left Bungkol Chapel, the youth and children organized a daily Rosary. We continue to pray for the perseverance and sanctification of the souls of these barangays, and we entrust them all to the maternal care of Mama Mary. Viva la Virgen, y viva la Mision!
